Abstract

This paper analyzes the choices of places that "link fiction and reality" among participants at cosplay events from the perspective of contents tourism research. The research was conducted based on participant observation of the behaviour of cosplayers at the Toyako Manga Anime Festa (TMAF). Cosplayers found morphological or semasiological affinity between the contents and “space” of Toyako town, which had no connection with the contents, and they defined the “space” as a “place” to reproduce a secondary creation of the fictional world. This research note then expands discussion of the phenomenon beyond cosplay events to other instances of cosplay.
